Sorrento
Our group took the circumvesuviam train into Sorrento. Before arriving at our hotel Heidi treats us to a gelato demonstration by a 3rd generation gelato maker. He is always trying new flavors, but somehow I don't think that avocado gelato is going to catch on!
Our home in Sorrento is Ulisse Deluxe Hostel. Sorrento is larger than Positano and has a ... laundromat! Yay for clean clothes! Our first night we wander the main shopping street between washing and drying cycles. We eat a late dinner of pizza at Aurora Pizzeria. During our meal a musical group walks by and plays "Volare." Andy asks me if it sounds a little Tejano? Almost immediately they switch to "La Bamba!" Nice to have a little bit of Texas in Italy!

 Capri
Andy has been wanting to rent a private boat and travel around the island of Capri since we booked this tour. Today was that day! Today is a free day, but a small group of us take the hyrdofoil to Capri and Andy is able to convince them that this boat idea is a good idea. With only a drivers license and no lessons we are on a boat to cruise for the next 2 hours. We pass the giant line for the Blue Grotto and towering rock cliffs as we travel. At one point a large wave comes crashing over the boat soaking all on board. No harm done; just another part of the adventure!
We air dry in the open top taxis on our way to Anacaprice and eat more pizza. The streets are full of beautiful, but expensive stores so we just window shop.
Once we are back in Sorrento Andy and I open a bottle of prosecco to toast our adventurous day. For dinner we go to a Heidi recommended restaurant, Delfino. This was by far my favorite meal! We sit on the balcony with Mt Vesuvius in the background while the sun sets. My sea bass comes out with head and tail, but the waiter kindly removes them and places the meat on a separate plate. The sea bass just melts in my mouth. I sure could get used to eating like this! |
