Positano

Finally I get my first look at the Amalfi Coast. The blue water, dramatic cliffs and scary roads were all that I hoped they would be. Our group has to leave our coach and board two smaller vans to make the final few miles into Positano. The roads are unbelievably narrow and traffic just zips along as if there wasn't an inch separating them from certain death. Our two nights here are at Hotel Savoia. Andy and I hit the hotel room jackpot...the view outside our balcony is the iconic view of cliff hugging Positano.

There is a pedestrian walkway down to the ocean and Andy and I decide to spring for a fabulous dinner at Buca di Bacco (Heidi told us that this restaurant used to be frequented by "jet setters!"). This dinner is Andy's favorite of the trip. We enjoy our fabulous seafood with the sun setting into the Mediterranean.

We have a free day here in Positano. Unfortunately it was raining, but a chance to explore the Amalfi Coast is a once in a lifetime experience so on go the water proof jackets and off we go. The day is quite an adventure! About a third of our group is on the bus to Amalfi Town. The bus to Amalfi Town is packed, standing room only and after 45 minutes my stomach is wishing I hadn't left our hotel. We easily catch the next bus up to our destination of Ravello. We go to Villa Cimbrone for some spectacular views of the coast. The rain and wind seem to be picking up and our umbrella is almost a casualty of the trip so we decide to head back. We take the boat back from Amalfi Town to Positano and while it is better than the bus the sea is very choppy and I am very happy to arrive on solid ground.

Heidi has arranged for another happy hour. We all drink our wine and laugh about the adventures of the day.
